I tripped on Validation E-Mailing quite by accident. I have more than 50 E-Mail addresses all told, which were collectively accumulating upwards from 100 spams EVERY DAY. And that's with a VERY elaborate filtering system, on both the server side and in my POP3 Client software. PHEW! After engaging Validation tactics, I didn't get A SINGLE SPAM!!
Even more importantly, I haven't recieved a single vicious file or SCAM attempt. That alone is worth the price of admission in MY book. Amoung the things I do locally are house-calls to those having computer issues. E-Mail delivered payloads have earned me a great deal of money; Dollars that could have been saved by simply avoiding the issue altogether! And did you know, that your Outlook Express doesn't even NEED you to manually execute a file to cause damage. These things can be planted and triggered totally by scripting sent you by a clever programmer. These are CRAZY times on line, and it's up to YOU to protect your own interests!
Validation E-Mailing is a very simple but highly effective system. It is based on the fact that very few spammers will ever provide their REAL reply to address. If they did, they would be too easy to find and stop! When someone sends an e-mail to a Spam Gate account, they recieve a ONE TIME automatic reply from our system; without validating this email by replying to it, they simply will not get through to your inbox. When they validate their address, it is added to a SAFE-LIST and their original email is forwarded to your Inbox. From that point on, all of their E-Mail passes through without challenge, UNLESS you remove them from the SAFE-LIST and add them to your BLACK-LIST. You may also set up filters as you would normally, completely server side for such things as E-Lists, Newsletters, PayPal notifications, etc. You'll have COMPLETE CONTROL over who can and who CAN'T use your InBox!
The vast majority of SPAM, SCAMS and dangerous files will never reach your InBox, because the sender will never see your validation E-Mail in the first place... remember, they don't use their real return address!
